Ritter, Me, Colton & Julie (6.30.09)
Jealous Emmitt will not let Pops and I have a moment's peace!
What a great week!  On Tuesday the 30th of June (okay, technically this should be on the June page, but it is only one day so I'm just putting it here...) I got to meet Moms' cousin Julie and her sons Ritter (7) and Colton (5).  It was cool to meet some more dudes.  Moments after taking this picture, Colton rubbed Julie's face and asked sweetly, "Mom, can we keep him forever?" Moms said no...luckily Pops was at work because he might have taken him up on the offer.

Don't get me wrong: Pops still secretly thinks I'm the cat's pajamas, but I'm 6 weeks old.  Those of you who know about babies know that this is the time in my little life where I am EXTRA fussy.  One book says 6 weeks is the peak of most babies fussy time, but other books say 8 weeks...Moms and Pops are both hoping Dr. Weissbluth is right and this is the worst of it!!!  That having been said, you can understand why Colton's offer to take me off of their hands might have seemed more attractive this week than most others.

I got to see Julie, Ritter, and Colton again on the 4th of July for a barbeque at Granny V's and Grandpa Jeff's house.  Because I rode over in the car I fell asleep for most of the event but did have a little awake time before we headed back home for the fireworks show.  Our neighbors, Mr. Doug, Miss Stacey, and Parker came over to watch fireworks for a while.  It was pretty fun.  I fell asleep after a while and Moms put me in the Peanut Shell my cousins Eli and Anya sent for me.  I was comfy and cozy in there but woke back up in time for the big fireworks show downtown.  As you can see below, Moms made sure I was dressed appropriately for the holiday.

Sunday Moms and Miss Kirsten went to lunch and got massages, so Pops and I hung out here at the house.  It was fun, even if I was showing Pops what all the books write about re: fussiness.

Today a professional photographer came over to the house to take pictures of me with Granny V, me with Grandpa Jeff, me with Granny V and Grandpa Jeff, me with Moms, me with Pops, me with Moms and Pops, and just me...yep, there were many many many pictures taken.  Moms signed a contract that prohibits her posting those pictures here (and we don't have them yet anyway) but she might be able to at least put a link to the camera lady's website when some of the photos make it to the internet...so stay tuned!

As I mentioned last week, I had some professional photos taken of me--if you would like to see a few shots, check them out at http://www.melissahathaway.com/blog/2009/07/meet-owen-8-weeks-portland-oregon-newborn-photography/.  A few things of note: first of all, sorry I can't imbed the link like a pro web host could.  I'm 7 weeks old, so you're going to have to forgive me.  Second, I was only 6 weeks old, which has been fixed on the website itself, but this link will still get you there.  Third, there is a place at the bottom of the post that allows for COMMENTS.  If you leave one, we get free stuff for every 10 we get.  Hook a kid up, will ya?

While I look all zen-like and peaceful in the pro photos, as you can see to the right I've really hit the fussy phase with full steam!  These pictures pretty much sum up the week, or at least it feels like it to Moms and Pops.  Both admit, though, that for each hour of crying, it only takes 5 minutes of my smiling and cooing at them to make up for it.  A reasonable ratio, in my opinion, so I give them what they want and get all cute for a few moments in between meltdowns.  What they fail to realize is I'm just gathering my strength to start up again.  What can I say?  I like to meet the milestones in the books...You know if I wasn't fussy, Moms would be all worried that there is something wrong with me!  This way, she just worries that there is something wrong with her.

Saturday night was a big outing for me, we went over to the Sewells' house.  As you can see from the photos below, the chicks swarmed all around me when I got there.  There is something about babes and a baby, I tell you!  I met Mr. Travis, Miss Kim, Mr. Steve, Miss Kerri, Mr. John, Mr. Johnny and his lady friend, and Mr. Craig along with Ella, Sophie, Charlotte and Calvin.  The kids seemed like they were having lots of fun playing with all of Ella and Sophie's toys, and I look forward to being a bit older so I can do the same!  Instead, I hung out with Moms and Pops and the other boring adults and watched UFC 100.   I don't have much to say about the fights, except that Brock Lesnar is a classless punk and I was cheering for that crazy Frank Mir.  My first taste of bitter disappointment.

You know, since I've been born people have been asking Moms and Pops who they think I look like, her or him.  Their baby pictures look pretty similar, but Moms broke out Pops' baby book over the weekend and just about passed out--she says it was like looking at pictures of me!  Even Pops had to concede his made-up-mystery about my paternity has been officially solved.  Check out the pix of baby Pops below--it's like looking in a mirror (if my eyes could appropriately focus, that is!)

I had another busy week from July 14-20!

It started out like any other, but on Wednesday Granny V came over and brought company!  I met my Great-Great Aunt Margie (she was my Great Grandma Betty's sister) and my Granny V's cousins Karlyn and Bob came too!  It was great fun to meet more relatives and I was in a pretty good mood while they were here.  That night, Granny V and Gramps stayed late and Moms and Pops checked out the AAA All Star Baseball Game at PGE Park.

On Thursday and Friday Moms went in to the office for some meetings.  Granny V deserted me for the Oregon Coast (the nerve!) and so Pops blocked out the time from his schedule and took me around the courthouse to meet all his and Moms' friends.  I met so many people it's impossible to name them all but it was cool to be held and adored by so many...except that Pat guy.  He made me cry.

Friday night, it was off to Miss Chris and MIss Carrie's house for a barbecue in honor of former DDA--now famous author--Alafair Burke.  She has written lots of books, three of them were about being a DDA in Portland and Moms even makes a cameo appearance in one and my Pops' old dog Griffey is in one of her books too!  She's got a new book coming out in the Spring, so I'll get to see her again just before I turn 1 when she's in town on her book tour.  I was held by Miss Alafair, Miss Robbie and Mr. Dave, and I also met Miss Regina, Miss Colette and Mr. Don, Miss Nikki and Mr. Richard, and Jomela.

Saturday Pops golfed early (he reported a 103 at home - you know it was higher) and Moms and I slept in.  Once Pops got home it was off to a luau and pool party at Miss Traci's house where I met LOTS MORE people and family members from my parents' work!

After such a busy weekend, Sunday was a lazy day around the house for me and Pops, while Moms got some stuff organized in the garage.  We all went to bed early.

Monday night my Auntie Feather came over to regale me with tales of her European Adventures.  She had so much fun, and she brought me back some cool French clothes that I can't wait to show off.

I'm sleeping even longer through the nights these days (Moms and Pops have their fingers crossed!) and I smile and laugh a lot more.  Hopefully next week they'll get their act together and post some video of me being so cute.

I have been SO busy I've been neglecting my web host duties!  The last couple of weeks have been whirlwinds.

To start, I got to meet FIVE MORE family members in the last two weeks--first, it was Pops' step-brother and his lady friend Matt and Gwen.  They were traveling up the I-5 corridor and stopped in for some sushi and Owen time.  I admit I was a little jealous, though, because they seemed far more intrigued by my brother Emmitt and his girth.  I'm working hard to catch up to him, but haven't quite yet.

Next I got to meet Baby Ava who arrived a bit earlier than expected.  She weighed in at a modest 5 pounds and 10 ounces so as you can see from the pictures I looked positively gargantuan next to her.  It was great to see cool cousins Rashad and Kiauna again, and meet my Great Aunt Debbie, Ava's grandma!  I also got to hang out with Cully, Ava's golden retriever brother who has, on occasion, come over and played with my brother Maxwell.

A few days later was my two month doctor appointment.  Things were going so well, they weighed me (13 pounds, 10 ounces!) and measured me (23") placing me in the 89th percentile for my age.  I was having a great time checking myself out in the mirror and impressing Dr. L with my head and neck strength when all of the sudden, some chick came in and made Moms hold my hands down while she jammed three different needles into my little baby legs.  I tensed up and opened my mouth right away, but it took a few seconds for the screams to start.  Moms says she's never heard me scream and cry like that before or since.  Pops says he's glad his court appearance got a late start and he got to miss the appointment altogether.  Moms did one thing right, though, she had a bottle ready and waiting so she fed me right after which helped me calm down.

That weekend we also went to a baby shower and pool party in honor of my soon-to-arrive pal Jack.  I got to see lots of cool people I'd met before at Mr. John's birthday party in June, but this time they brought their kids!  Caleb and I hung out some and tried to out-cute each other.  Sadly, Moms says it was a draw...I'm really bringing the cute next time, though, so Caleb: you're on notice!

The end of the month I met my Grandma Karen who flew in on Thursday.  There's a few pictures of her here on this page, but the rest are in the August link because there were definitely some big happenings...you should check it out!
